FIRST Programs

Since its start in 1992,[1] FIRST has been reaching out to children of all ages to become excited about science and technology. Below, you can find the many programs that are hosted by FIRST and their target age ranges:

 FIRST® Robotics Competition (FRC®)

The FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) is geared for high school students (grades 9-12). While facing strict rules, time and resource regulations, volunteer mentors help teams of students to create a robot that performs specified tasks. [6]

 FIRST® Tech Challenge (FTC®)

The FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) is another program for high school students (grades 9-12). Teams of up to 10 students create a robot using a variety of programming languages and sound engineering principles. The robots then compete head-to-head. [5]

 FIRST® LEGO® League (FLL®)

FIRST LEGO League is aimed at kids in junior high (grades 4-8). Using LEGO MINDSTORMS® kits to complete tasks, students are introduced to exciting career options while solving real-world issues. [3]

 Junior FIRST® LEGO® League (Jr.FLL™)

Young students (grades K-3), with the help of adult coaches, use research and imagination to solve real-world issues. Solutions to the problems are presented using moving LEGO parts. [4]

 FIRST® Place™

FIRST also offers summer programs for all ages in Manchester, NH. Kids partake in hands-on projects and are able to work with small groups and mentors to discover and explore the principles of science and technology. [2]
